CSTC community members and researchers can receive additional access to records not made available to the public.  If you would like to request additional access please indicate you are a community member or researcher below.  Your request will be reviewed by CSTC staff.

Ethical Research Agreement
By registering you are agreeing to follow the terms listed below.

The following agreement has been developed to ensure that research conducted using CSTC materials is done in a way which respects and acknowledges the language, values, knowledge, and cultures of First Nation peoples. Researchers are defined as individuals or organizations collecting or disseminating information that is either directly or indirectly related to Indigenous peoples.
 
  • The researcher will consult, or will allow the Librarian/Archivist to consult on their behalf, relevant communities and individuals when using Carrier Sekani Tribal Council materials originating from, or about, said communities and individuals.
  • The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council Library and Archives reserves the right to request a Band Council Resolution, a statement of written support, or seek verbal permission from the CSTC General Manager or leadership, when a researcher requests material under the custody or stewardship of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council.
  • Access and use of genealogical materials under the custody or stewardship of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council must be mediated in consultation with the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council General Manager.
  • The rights, cultural protocols, knowledge, ways of knowing, and other attributes of both Member Nations and Indigenous peoples overall must be acknowledged and respected throughout the research process. Further, it is the responsibility of the researcher to understand and respect the specific community and cultural frameworks of the Indigenous communities or individuals they are researching.
  • The researcher will not cause undue harm to any Indigenous community or person as a result of their research processes or findings.
  • The researcher will ensure, to the best of their ability that the interests, resources, and goals of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council and its Member Nations are protected, and no negative outcomes to the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council and its Member Nations occurs as a result of their research.
  • The researcher must honestly represent the goals and intents of their research project, or of any organization, government, community, or project they are conducting research on behalf of. Additionally, the researcher must be transparent regarding the tools, techniques, and processes used to conduct research.
  • The researcher will bring any materials which have potential privacy, ethical, or sensitivity issues to the attention of the Librarian/Archivist.
  • The researcher is encouraged to share the findings or outcomes of their research project with the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council, especially where it contributes to, or builds, the research and informational capacity of the organization, or is related to the aims and goals of the organization.
  • Overall, the researcher agrees to conduct themselves and their research in a way that is both respectful and accountable to Indigenous peoples, and their protocols, traditions, and ways of knowing.

By accessing the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council’s Library & Archives Online Collection you agree to follow the terms of access, use, and reproduction defined by each individual, family, and community for their records, cultural materials, and traditional knowledge. This information is found in the Access Conditions and Restrictions fields for all archival records and collections.

I will not use information from this website for commercial or publication purposes unless permission is obtained from The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council by contacting the Library and Archives Department.
